The Blue Ridge Parkway:

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway and All-American road noted for its scenic beauty. It runs for 469 miles, mostly along the famous Blue Ridge, a major mountain chain that is part of the Appalachian Mountains. Its southern terminus is on the boundary between Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina. Parkway website.

 

Hiking, Cycling, Golf and Horseback Riding:

There are so many places to hike with several waterfalls in the area! The Appalachian trail is closeby.

A great Bicycle shop / website to visit in Sylva is Motion Makers. The shop is run by friendly and knowledgeable staff who are familiar with road and mountain biking. The shop website features many local ride maps.

Tour de Tuck - held during September, the 105 mile ride has over 11,000 feet of climbing. Over 40 of these miles are on the Blue Ridge Parkway, giving this century the distinction of having the most Parkway miles of any organized ride in the Appalachians. The 60 mile route has approximately 6,800 feet of climbing with over 25 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
